A contemplative, classically garbed, philosophical blacksmith leaning on his hammer and sitting on his anvil adorns the monument to famed and influential mechanical engineer George Stephenson (1781-1848). The monument was created by John Graham Lough (1789-1876) in 1862 (Sep., 2021).
