A detail of the memorial dedicated to the memory of the 65000 Austrian Jews murdered by the nazi regime between 1938 and 1945. The exterior walls are formed by a pattern of outward looking stylized books. They represent the life stories of the murdered, criminally and prematurely ruptured and stopped. I think this sad image is a very subtle, poetic and sensitive interpretation of what happend. The memorial (Mahnmal) is the work of British artist Rachel Whiteread.
