The young wombat on the left was born on Halloween, so her name is Boo, and her mother is called Poppy. These two are spoiled rotten with delicious fresh vegetables every day. In the wild they would have to work hard digging for their food and making burrows. Wombats have pouches, but wombats are different to other marsupials. Most have a pouch which points forward and upward, for the baby to live in, but because they do so much digging, wombat pouches are designed to face backwards, so the baby doesn’t end up living in a pouch full of soil!
