low-angle photography of tree

Curtain fig tree, Atherton Tablelands, Australia. How would this fig tree form a curtain of roots like this? A tree that may have been dead already would have blown over in the forest, and ended up at an angle propped up against another tree. A bird that had eaten figs elsewhere would have landed on this slanted tree, and deposited fig seeds. One of these germinated and grew roots down along the the slanting tree trunk, as well as growing roots straight down, forming a curtain of roots. The original slanting tree has since rotten away and disappeared.
